Students are required to analyse a level from Unreal Tournament 3 and write a report that indicates the key interactive features of that level. Students are not required to list every actor in the level, rather they are to use their judgment in selecting only those that have a significant affect on gameplay, such as kismet sequences, triggered platforms and environmental effects.
Students are required to provide commentary on how the spatial arrangement of the level represents specific game design parameters it has been created for, asking “what makes this level work for the specified game, and not all games”?
Students should include an analysis of items found in the level, and their strategic placement
This report should indicate the actors that power these features, from triggers, movers, emitters, materials, projectors, and sounds.
Students who look at their chosen level inside UnrealEd, and have screenshots that illustrate
the features they are identifying, will score well in this assignment.

Space/Design discussion - out of 10
Has the student described the atmosphere of the level, and what design factors lead to their
conclusion? Has the student discussed specific of gameplay as expressed in the chosen
level. For example, symmetrical level design in CTF, red/blue coloring in team levels,
translocator opportunities in CTF, etc.
Item placement – out of 5
Has the student discussed the strategic/dramatic implications of item placement in relation to
the specified gametype of the level?
Discussion of actors – out of 10
Has the student recognised and discussed all of the major actors and their interactive
implementation within their chosen level?
Screenshots – out of 5
Has the student utilised screenshots from both inside the game, and
the editor, to illustrate their discussion?
Students who look at their chosen level inside UnrealEd, and have screenshots that illustrate the features they are identifying, will score well in this assignment.
Marking criteria will be supplied during your lab class.
